Couples Therapy
“Healthy love is not about avoiding every hard moment. It is about learning whether honesty, emotional safety, mutual effort, and repair can have a place in the relationship.”
-Nicole Kelly, LMFT
When you love each other but keep getting caught in the same pain.
Maybe you are having the same argument again. One of you reaches for closeness while the other pulls away. Conversations become defensive, tense, or quiet before either of you feels truly heard.
You may still care deeply about one another, but conflict, distance, stress, or hurt has made it harder to feel like a team.
Couples therapy offers a supportive place to slow down, understand what is happening beneath the conflict, and explore a healthier way forward—together.
Couples therapy can be a meaningful place to begin if you are experiencing:
Recurring arguments that never feel resolved
Emotional distance, resentment, or feeling alone in the relationship
A pursue-withdraw pattern, where one partner reaches for connection and the other pulls away
Defensiveness, shutdown, or difficulty recovering after conflict
Trust concerns, intimacy changes, or the effects of relational hurt
Stress related to parenting, family, work, finances, or a major life transition
Uncertainty about what repair could look like—or whether it is possible
You do not have to agree on every detail of the problem before beginning. You only need enough willingness to become curious about the pattern you are caught in together.
You may be here because…
The pattern is the problem.
Most couples are not stuck because one person is simply “too much,” “too distant,” or bad at communicating. Often, they are caught in a cycle that leaves both people feeling misunderstood, unimportant, or alone.
One partner may pursue because they need reassurance or connection. The other may withdraw because they feel criticized, overwhelmed, or afraid of getting it wrong. The more one partner reaches, the more the other pulls away—and both people can end up feeling hurt.
In therapy, we slow the cycle down and look beneath it. We make room for the fears, needs, emotions, and protective responses that may be driving the conflict.

My Approach to Couples Therapy
I’m Nicole Kelly, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and founder of Repair Room Therapy. I provide warm, attachment-informed couples therapy grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).
EFT helps couples understand the negative interaction pattern that has taken over and practice new ways of reaching for and responding to one another. Rather than deciding who is right or wrong, we focus on the cycle, and on creating greater understanding, responsiveness, and connection. Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy is a structured, attachment-based approach that focuses on identifying and shifting distress-maintaining interaction patterns.
Understanding the recurring cycle beneath conflict
Communicating needs and emotions with greater clarity
Reducing defensiveness, shutdown, and escalation
Rebuilding trust after relational hurt
Strengthening emotional safety, closeness, and repair
Navigating parenting, intimacy, life transitions, and major decisions
Therapy is not about perfection, forcing forgiveness, or convincing either person to stay. It is a place to better understand your relationship and explore what a healthier next step may require.

How Couples Therapy Begins…
-
Reach out by filling out an inquiry form. Share what is bringing you to therapy, ask questions, and determine whether Repair Room Therapy may be a good fit.
-
Every couple begins with a 90-minute assessment session together, followed by one 50-minute individual session with each partner.
This beginning phase gives us space to understand your relationship story, the concerns bringing you in, and the patterns that have developed between you. The individual sessions also allow me to learn more about each partner’s attachment history, personal experiences, and the ways you may have learned to seek closeness or protect yourself in relationships.
-
After the assessment process, we return to the work together in 80-minute couples sessions. We will focus on the patterns beneath the conflict and create more room for honesty, emotional safety, connection, and repair.
For couples who want extended, concentrated time to focus on their relationship, Couples Intensives may also be an option. Inquire about intensives on consult call.
Initial Couples Assessment: 90 minutes — $295
Individual Sessions: 50 minutes — $195 per partner
Ongoing Couples Therapy: 80 minutes — $295
